 This species is famous for the two large fangs in produces under the lid.

Nepenthes bicalcarata thrives in hot, humid conditions. It will quickly decline in temperatures under 65F. Prefers partial shade and can burn easily in strong light.

 The images show he exact specimen we are offering. 6+ inches in diameter. Shipped with roots carefully wrapped in sphagnum. Seed grown. 

 

This plant prefers lowland conditions.  It should be kept between 84-90F , with nights no lower than 65F.  Nepenthes can acclimate to lower humidity levels, although the best results will be seen with a relative humidity around 80%. Bright, indirect light and pure water.

Description

Nepenthes bicalcarata is native to Northwestern Borneo where it’s found growing in hot, sticky jungles.  It was formerly described by Joseph Dalton Hooker in his 1873. Nepenthes bicalcarata produces tubby pitchers on long tendrils. The peristome is usually lime green with two large fangs. They can actually be quite sharp like needles! A quick growing species that can easily reach two feet or more across. Nepenthes bicalcarata is a true lowland species so it thrives with Hot, humid days and warm nights. It will not tolerate cold.

Nepenthes are primarily native to Southeast Asia.  There are roughly 180 species, with many recently discovered in the 20th century. They grow anywhere from hot, sticky jungles to chill mountain tops high above the clouds. Tho Nepenthes were once thought to be difficult to grow, this is far from the truth. Most plants have adapted to cultivation quite well and the hobby is growing quickly. In fact, most tropical pitcher plants species and hybrids will thrive indoors between 60 and85 degrees Fahrenheit.
