Pinguicula lutea is a warm temperate species found in the Southeastern USA. Its the only species to produce yellow flowers, which are quite spectacular. It’s habitat is primarily wet Savannah and sandy bogs. They prefer more open shade and protection from full sun.

Perennial outdoors in zones 8-10. Mature plant. Shipped bare root. Bright indirect light.
 Distilled/RO water.
Pinguicula or butterworts are not only grown for their ability to capture insects, but their flowers are cheery and come in a variety of colors. Depending on the species, the leaves can be small or large with colors ranging from green, and blue to red tones. They resemble succulents, but certainly never like to dry out.

Mexican pinguicula are great houseplants. Although they won't completely solve your gnat issues, they sure can capture quite a few. They prefer a sunny windowsill and always standing in a shallow saucer of water.
