Nepenthes platychila is a tropical pitcher plant native to the Hose Mountains in central Sarawak. The upper pitchers are extremely different than the lower. They are funnel shaped and the peristome is wide, flat  and smooth. Nepenthes platychila is very easy to grow in intermediate conditions. In our experience it slows down in true highland conditions. This species loves bright, indirect light and high humidity to thrive. A Must have for the species collector!

Nepenthes are primarily native to Southeast Asia.  There are roughly 180 species, with many recently discovered in the 20th century. They grow anywhere from hot, sticky jungles to chill mountain tops high above the clouds. Tho Nepenthes were once thought to be difficult to grow, this is far from the truth. Most plants have adapted to cultivation quite well and the hobby is growing quickly. In fact, most tropical pitcher plants species and hybrids will thrive indoors between 60 and85 degrees Fahrenheit. Check out our Nepenthes care tips here.  For an in depth look at different species and their temperature requirements take a look at this guide. Bred by Exotica Plants, this is a horticultural cross between two of their best platychila. This species produces bizarre uppers with wide, smooth peristomes! Very striking!

Exact plant as seen in the secondary images. The main image shows the parents. 6+ inches in diameter. Seed grown.

This plant prefers Intermediate/lowland conditions.  It should be kept between 80-85F , with nights no lower than 60F.  Nepenthes can acclimate to lower humidity levels, although the best results will be seen with a relative humidity around 80%. Bright, indirect light and pure water.
