Pinguicula caerulea or the blue flowering butterwort is a warm temperate species found growing in the southeastern USA, primarily the Florida panhandle. It’s ideal habitat is sandy bogs, wet ditches and low pinelands. It flowers from January to May. It is a state-threatened species and is susceptible to drought conditions, habitat loss and illegal collecting. Our plants are sustainably sourced and grown from seed.

Mature plant. Shipped bare root. Bright indirect light.
 Distilled/RO water.
Pinguicula or butterworts are not only grown for their ability to capture insects, but their flowers are cheery and come in a variety of colors. Depending on the species, the leaves can be small or large with colors ranging from green, and blue to red tones. They resemble succulents, but certainly never like to dry out.

Mexican pinguicula are great houseplants. Although they won't completely solve your gnat issues, they sure can capture quite a few. They prefer a sunny windowsill and always standing in a shallow saucer of water.
